WHAT THEY SAID
&
WHAT THEY MEANT

We all have met people that say one thing and mean another. Many well known people have spoken out on various topics. We have listed some quotes and what we believe was actually meant.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"First of all, our intelligence efforts are strictly regulated by our law so how special forces can use this kind of special equipment as they intercept phone calls or follow someone online. You have to get a court permission to stalk a particular person."
- Russian President Vladimir Putin on whether Russia intercepts, stores or analyzes the communications of millions of individuals.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
As president regulated by our law, I have court permission to intercept all phone calls.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I'll make up my mind, the end of the year,"
- Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, on whether he will run for president.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
It will take till the end of the year to convince my wife to let me run.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Itís an act of love. Itís an act of commitment to your family, I honestly think that that is a different kind of crime. There should be a price paid, but it shouldn't rile people up that people are actually coming to this country to provide for their families."
- Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, on illegal immigration.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
It is a love crime.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"If itís Bush against Clinton, itís two people who have been around an awful long time, two people who sort of inherited the mantle and then Hillary gets to say, ĎIím the first woman president.í And Jeb gets to say, ĎIím the third Bush president.í Thatís not a good match-up for Republicans."
- Bill Kristol, on why former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush will not be the Republican presidential nominee in 2016.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Republicans don't want another Bush who will remind them of George W and the Iraq war.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I don't think there's any appetite in New Hampshire to use police powers to enforce a marriage,"
- New Hampshire state Rep. Tim O'Flaherty, on why he sponsored a bill to repeal New Hampshire's anti-adultery law.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
New Hampshire police are under staffed to enforce the anti-adultery law and since I am an adulter I want it off the books.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"This administration, the White House and the state department have failed to get a status of forces agreement. A trained ape can get a status of forces agreement! It does not take a genius."
- Donald Rumsfeld, former defense secretary in the Bush Administration, on the Obama Administration failure to get a status of forces agreement with the government of Afghanistan.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Obama isn't trained.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Together, Comcast and Time Warner Cable will bring to millions of households and businesses of all sizes the next generation of broadband Internet, video, voice, and related technologies and services, and will compete more effectively against communications, media, and technology providers with national and global scale."
- Comcast in a statement to the FCC on their purchase of Time Warner Cable.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Comcast and Time Warner Cable's monopoly will bring to millions of households and businesses of all sizes the next generation of broadband Internet, video, voice, and related technologies and services. That next generation will cost what we want to charge and as gatekeepers who we want people to hear and see. You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into the Comcast Zone.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"We went through this rodeo last time about our platform. Our record speaks for itself."
- Coun. Doug Ford, on his bother Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's reelection campaign.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Our record speaks for itself. Lots of alcohol, drugs and jokes about Rob Ford.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Just like Canadians could not understand how America elected George W. Bush twice... Americans cannot understand how a crack-smoking, drunk, anti-government buffoon is still mayor of such a great city,"
- Richard Florida, director of the Martin Prosperity Institute in Toronto, on what Americans think of Torontonians and their Mayor Rob Ford.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
We are the laughing stock of the world.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"(Kimmel) is trying his utmost to look relevant, to look outrageous, to look funny, and he has a job to do. And evidently, he believes that going after people like Rob Ford will get him enough material,"
- Gabor Forgacs, of the Ted Rogers Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Research at Ryerson University, on Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I am embarrassed by my mayor who gives comedians more than enough material.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"These toys can have a negative effect on children. They can destroy their souls and lead them to the dark side."
- Polish priest Father Slawomir Kostrzewa, on Lego's Monster Fighters.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Take your children's Lego's Monster Fighters and burn them before I have to do an exorcism on your child which costs $99.99 for the first hour and $6.66 for each additional hour not including holy water.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"There are limits to the amount of time and effort that the United States can spend if the parties themselves are unwilling to take constructive steps in order to be able to move forward,"
- Secretary of State John Kerry, on a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
The Middle East peace plan is dead.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"We have an enormous amount on the plate,"
- Secretary of State John Kerry.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
The world is changing governments and without the United States military taking action we at the State Department have a lot to do.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"It's the state of where we've always been. We don't get the respect for being the golfers we are. Obviously, Golf Digest is trying to sell magazines, but at the same time you like to see a little respect for the women's game."
- Professional golfer Stacy Lewis, on Golf Digest choice of Paulina Gretzky for covergirl.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
The chauvinistic Golf Digest is targeting men to buy their magazine by showing women as sex objects more than golfers.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"The focus now is really, we want to avoid the crash, we don't want to undermine the American efforts."
- Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat, on an American Middle East peace plan.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
We felt the need to undermine the American efforts nonetheless.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"The American people want us to deal with immigration reform, I've tried to get the House to move on this now for the last 15 or 16 months. But every time the president ignores the law, like the 38 times he has on Obamacare, our members look up and go, ĎWait a minute: You can't have immigration reform without strong border security and internal enforcement, how can we trust the president to actually obey the law and enforce the law that we would write?"
- House Speaker John Boehner, on why there is no immigration reform laws passed.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
My inability to control the House is President Obama's fault.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I'm asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff, and my constituents who elected me to serve. Trust is something I know has to be earned whether your a husband, a father, or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I've disappointed."
- Louisiana Rep. Vance McAllister in a statement after The Ouachita Citizen showed a video of him passionately kissing and embracing a member of his congressional staff.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Trust me the next time I will look for security cameras.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Jaro never at any time said he didn't want to start against St. Louis, a private conversation between a player and coach should stay private and not be discussed with the media. I am bewildered that a coach would break that trust especially when those comments the coach publicly attributed to Jaro are not accurate. It's the coach who makes the decision on who plays in the games, not the players."
- Allan Walsh, agent for Washington Capitals goaltender Jaroslav Halak, on Capitals coach Adam Oates giving the reason he didn't start against his old St. Louis Blues team as being he was not 100 per cent comfortable.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Jaro said he wasn't 100 per cent comfortable, that didn't mean he wouldn't play just he was wasn't 100 per cent comfortable with playing but the coach still could have made him play because it is the coach who makes the decision on who plays in the games including goaltenders who are not 100 per cent comfortable with the idea of playing.
