WHAT THEY SAID
&
WHAT THEY MEANT

We all have met people that say one thing and mean another. Many well-known people have spoken out on various topics. We have listed some quotes and what we believe was actually meant.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Itís not really about asking for the raise, but knowing and having faith that the system will actually give you the right raises as you go along, that might actually be one of the superpowers that women who donít ask for raises have, because thatís good karma."
- Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, after being asked if he had any advice for women who are uncomfortable asking for promotions.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Don't worry be happy. In every life we have some trouble. When you worry, you make it double. Don't worry, be happy!

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Donít let anybody tell you that itís corporations and businesses that create jobs."
- Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at a campaign event.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
From Bill and my own experience it is government that provides jobs, for Bill as Governor of Arkansas and President of the United States, for me as First Lady of Arkansas, First Lady of the United States, Senator of New York, then as Secretary of State. It is government that create jobs, at least for the Clintons.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I don't think when you're dealing with something as serious as this you can count on a voluntary system."
- New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie, on New Jersey's new Ebola regulations that require all aid workers, including those with no symptoms, coming from West Africa to be quarantined for 21 days.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I think individual rights, the constitution and a voluntary system are trumped by government control. The government has the right to lock someone up with no charges and no symptoms. That will teach healthcare workers a lesson for going overseas and helping sick people.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"He should bring out his scientists who are advising him on that, because we know that we want to be led by science that is whatís going to keep people safe. Science, not politics. I think thatís whatís critical."
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's Ebola regulations that require all aid workers, including those with no symptoms, coming from West Africa to be quarantined for 21 days.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Gov. Chris Christie is politicizing Ebola and locking people up to pretend he is doing something when science shows it is a waste of time and money.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I flew into Newark airport on the wrong day. This has all been a little overwhelming to me. I think I am fighting for something much more than myself."
- Doctors Without Borders nurse Kaci Hickox, on her forced quarantine even though she shows no Ebola symptoms after returning from West Africa.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I think I am fighting for the Constitution and against unlawful imprisonment by the government.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"We donít know what we donít know about Ebola,"
- Maine Governor Paul LePage.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I donít know what I donít know. This I know. Since I don't know about Ebola why is anyone listening to me?

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I gotta tell you the truth, Iím tired of hearing about the minimum wage, I really am. I donít think thereís a mother or father sitting around a kitchen table tonight in America who are saying, ĎYou know honey, if my son or daughter could just make a higher minimum wage, my God, all our dreams would be realized,"
- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I don't care about the mother or father sitting around a kitchen table struggling now, thinking how they will feed their children, I only care about the votes of the middle class mother or father sitting around a kitchen table thinking about their children's future wage.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Before you have somebody come in your house really check them out; really give it some time before you let somebody in, because they might want to stay,"
- An unidentified man in Thousand Oaks whose chimney firemen took apart brick by brick using a jackhammer after a woman he met on an online dating service and dated a few times got stuck in his chimney and was arrested for illegally entering a residence and providing false information to an officer.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
There are a lot of crazies out there.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"It seems the folks who come digging around for some nefarious truth which doesn't exist won't get off my porch until I answer the door... Perhaps I look different. Who doesn't as they get older?! Ha. But I am different. I'm happy."
- Renee Zellweger, on media reports that she looks different.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Screw you media I am happy!

WHAT THEY SAID,
"This suicide problem didnít exist until we got largesse from the government,"
- Alaska Rep. Don Young.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Government handouts create suicide. I want to kill myself when I see how much the government hands out.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Governors of both parties are reacting because there isn't a trust in the leadership of this administration."
- Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Rep. Darrell Issa, R-California on CNN's State of the Union regarding the quarantine plans for New York, New Jersey, and Illinois for travelers who have been to West Africa.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Governors of both parties are reacting to politicize the Ebola outbreak. I only have trust in the leadership when I agree with the decisions, when I disagree there is a lack of leadership of this administration.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Our biggest existential threat. With artificial intelligence, we are summoning the demon."
- Elon Musk, on the development of artificial intelligence.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Artificial intelligence could be then end of the world as we know it. Be afraid, be very afraid.

- Jeb Bush spokeswoman Kristy Campbell, on a Jeb Bush fundraising mailer received by Iowa Republicans for donations to his Excellence in Education National group.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
This is a reminder Jeb Bush is out there and wants Iowa Republicans support when he makes a decision on his political future, which he will make later this year or early next.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Iím trying to help you with your tax status. Iím sorry the governmentís so fucked-up. If I get to be president, white men in male-only clubs are going to do great in my presidency."
- South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, speaking on a recording given to CNN.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Tax exempt status for gays. If I get to be president, white gay men are going to do great in my presidency, especially me Lindsey Graham. I have already picked out the new drapes.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"The thing about Bibi is, heís a chickenshit."
- An named senior Obama administration official, on Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, according to The Atlantic correspondent Jeffrey Goldberg.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
He is afraid to do anything that will hurt him politically, so he doesn't do anything. He is like an Israeli John Boehner.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"When I got here today for this debate, I was told that Charlie Crist was going to cancel the debate, because unless there was a fan on that stage, he would not come out, so I think that Governor Scott was waiting to see if Charlie would actually pull that off or not."
- Republican Senator Marco Rubio, on why Republican Florida Governor Rick Scott remained off stage of the Florida Governors debate while Charlie Crist waited for him for several minutes on stage before Governor Scott appeared.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
It is Charlie Crist's fault that Governor Rick Scott stood off stage for several minutes delaying the debate.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Letís get one thing clear: Rick Scott never refused to take the stage and debate."
- Melissa Sellers, Florida Governor Rick Scott's campaign manager, on why Governor Scott took 7 minutes to join former Governor Charlie Crist on stage for their debate.
