WHAT THEY SAID
&
WHAT THEY MEANT

We all have met people that say one thing and mean another. Many well known people have spoken out on various topics. We have listed some quotes and what we believe was actually meant.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I know people are tired of me not saying anything, but a guy doesn't have to answer to innuendos."
-Bill Cosby, on the many sexual allegations against him by various women.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
It is all innuendo, none of them were conscious at the time of the alleged incidents to be able to see anything.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Already the White House people are leaking, ‘Well, he wasn’t up to the job.’ Believe me, he was up to the job,"
- Sen. John McCain, on the resignation of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Believe me, he was up to the job, that is why I voted against his nomination to be Secretary of Defense.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I think the American people, you know, they're going to want that new car smell."
- President Obama speaking to ABC's George Stephanopoulos, on what the American people are looking for in the 2016 presidential candidates.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I smell like the back seat of Bill Cosby's limo. The American people want a fresh start.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"At a time when the state is focused on prevention and response to sexual assaults on campus, allowing Mr Cosby to continue to represent our state university sends the exact wrong message."
- Massachusetts attorney general Martha Coakley, in a letter urging UMass Amherst to discontinue Bill Cosby as honorary co-chair of it's fundraising campaign after news reports of several sexual assault allegations against the comedian.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
At a time when the state is focused on prevention and response to sexual assaults on campus, allowing a rapist to continue to represent our state university would be idiotic.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play, rise to the occasion. Then again, your mother and father don't respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter. So I'm guessing you're coming up a little short in the 'good role model' department. Stretch yourself. Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar."
- Elizabeth Lauten, communications director for Republican Rep. Stephen Lee Fincher (Tenn.), in a letter to President Obama's daughters Sasha and Malia in a Facebook posting on their appearance at the pardoning of two turkeys.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I hate your father and everything about him even you two. I never was a teen so I don't know how teens act. I was always a mean angry bitch.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"We have come a long way in a short period of time."
- Secretary of State John Kerry, on the nuclear negotiations with Iran.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
We still have no deal in sight.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Despite having a black president, the racial divide seems greater than it has in decades. If Obama were a leader, this would not be the case."
- Donald Trump in a tweet.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
President Obama is responsible for the decades old racial divide.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"You cannot put women and men on an equal footing, it is against nature. They were created differently. Their nature is different. Their constitution is different."
- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Women are not equal to men and I intend to change Turkey's constitution to make women even less equal. God willing.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"This issue is probably not in the top 10 of most voters in America."
- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, on immigration reform.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
This issue is not in the top 10 of most Republican primary voters.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"The House has an obligation to stand up for the Constitution, and that is exactly why we are pursuing this course of action."
- House Speaker John Boehner, on the House lawsuit filed against President Obama for delaying the implementation of the employer mandate requiring businesses with 100 or more employees to provide affordable health insurance for full-time workers.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
The Republican controlled House has an obligation to go against everything President Obama does including something Republicans wanted, delaying the implementation of the employer mandate. We will oppose President Obama even when we agree with him and the lawsuit wastes taxpayer money because when it really gets down to it Republicans are not for saving money, it is only an excuse to oppose the president's budgets.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Burn this bitch down!"
- Louis Head, Michael Brown's stepfather after the grand jury's decision not to indict Darren Wilson for the death of Michael Brown.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Burn this bitch down!

WHAT THEY SAID,
"In case of a situation where I needed them."
- Shaina Foster, 17, on why she brought zip ties to a date with an 85-year-old man she and her twin sister met on seekingarrangement.com, she allegedly tied the old man to a coffee table in his home and then robbed him of cash and credit cards.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I might need zip ties if he had cash and credit cards.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Coach's decision. I'm here to help this team win,"
- Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III on being benched by coach Jay Gruden.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
The best way to help this team win is as a backup.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"When a president wants highly centralized control in the White House at the degree of micromanagement that I'm describing, that's not bureaucratic, that's political,"
- Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, on President Obama's micromanagement of the Department of Defense.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
It's political when I disagree with the decisions, it's leadership when I agree with the decisions.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"As we have been pointing out for months, this once more proves that Islamic State is being supported (from within Turkey),"
- Halklarin Demokratik Partisi (HDP), Turkey's pro-Kurdish party, in a statement on Turkey aiding Islamic State terrorists who used suicide bombers in the Syrian border town of Kobani.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is supporter of Islamic State terrorism.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I think we need to have this conversation with America."
- Texas Gov. Rick Perry, at a meeting of potential Republican presidential candidates and donors in Boca Raton, Florida.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I think I need to have this conversation with donors.
