WHAT THEY SAID
&
WHAT THEY MEANT

We all have met people that say one thing and mean another. Many well-known people have spoken out on various topics. We have listed some quotes and what we believe was actually meant.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I searched mightily to try to characterize what the first 10 days of his presidency have been like, and the only words that come to mind are 'dumpster fire,"
- Democratic Representative Linda Sanchez on President Trump's first 10 days of his presidency.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
In ten days President Trump burned up most of President Obama's accomplishments.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I want to be loud and clear: populism scares me. The No. 1 issue economically as a market participant is how populism manifests itself over the next year or two."
- Hedge Fund billionaire Ray Dalio speaking at the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
The plebeians will overthrow our elitist world order and that scares me from the tip of my toe to the top of my wallet.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Historically, when Russia encounters weakness or hesitation, it demands more, then blames the opponent for escalation when the opponent resists, then calls for discussions, which it uses to consolidate its gains. Deals don't come easily."
- John McLaughlin the former deputy director of the CIA speaking at a House Armed Services Committee hearing.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Russia saw President Obama as weak, Russia then took parts of Ukraine and bolstered Syria for their own advantage because they knew Obama would do nothing, then Putin called for discussions with the Obama Administration to consolidate its gains.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"Far from uniting us, it divides us, Mexico does not believe in walls."
- Mexican President Enrique Peņa Nieto, on President Trump's plan to build a wall on the American border with Mexico.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Mexico does not believe in walls, a wall between the U.S. and Mexico would stop all the Central American immigrants from passing through Mexico on their way to America and leave Mexico with thousands of illegals from Central America.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I think anytime you do anything hugely successful, that challenges a failed orthodoxy, you're going to see protests."
- Stephen Miller, senior advisor to President Trump, on the airport protests to the executive order stopping non-Americans from entering the country from seven high-risk Middle Eastern countries.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
We expect to see many more protests.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"The firing of Sally Yates underscores how important it is to have an Attorney General who will stand up to the White House when they are violating the law. Many people have doubts about whether Jeff Sessions can be that person."
- Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, on President Trump firing acting Attorney General Sally Yates after she refused to defend President Trump's executive order stopping non-Americans from entering the country from seven high risk countries.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
The firing of Sally Yates underscores how important it is to have an Attorney General who is a Democrat. President Trump makes me want to cry big tears.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"The first threat, an external one, is related to the new geopolitical situation in the world and around Europe. An increasingly, let us call it, assertive China, especially on the seas, Russia's aggressive policy towards Ukraine and its neighbors, wars, terror and anarchy in the Middle East and in Africa, with radical Islam playing a major role, as well as worrying declarations by the new American administration all make our future highly unpredictable. For the first time in our history, in an increasingly multipolar external world, so many are becoming openly anti-European, or Eurosceptic at best. Particularly the change in Washington puts the European Union in a difficult situation; with the new administration seeming to put into question the last 70 years of American foreign policy."
- European Council President Donald Tusk in a letter to EU countries, on the changes facing the EU.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
With the world going to hell in a handbasket, American President Donald Trump wants the EU members to actually pay their fair share of defense costs. It is anti-European to have the EU pay more for our own defense when for the last 70 years the American taxpayer has footed the bill. The outrage, the injustice of this terrible world!

WHAT THEY SAID,
"If it stands, it will over time diminish the scope and strength of the educational and research efforts of American universities, which have been the source not only of intellectual discovery but of economic innovation for the United States and international understanding for our world."
- University of Notre Dame President Rev. John I. Jenkins, on the executive order stopping non-Americans from entering the country from seven high-risk countries.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
We need the tuition money from foreign students.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"I can't play because I've got a hangnail on my toe. I can't play because I didn't get a pedicure this week. I don't play because my head hurt. That wouldn't have got the job done back in my day."
- NFL Hall of Famer Earl Campbell, on today's NFL players.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
Today's NFL players are pussies.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"After I finished my mission in Japan I met with some university friends, we were drunk and I unconsciously and unintentionally committed an inappropriate act."
- Suphat Saquandeekul, the deputy director of the Thailand Commerce Ministry's Department of Intellectual Property, in a letter distributed to the media on his stealing of three paintings from a Japanese hotel.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I was unconscious at the time of the theft. I unintentionally put the three paintings in my suitcase. The alcohol made me do it.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"What I want from God, I have already received, that's his forgiveness. What I am asking of our members is your prayers and your forgiveness."
- Pastor O. Jermaine Simmons of the Jacob Chapel to his congregation after getting caught in bed having sex with another man's wife by the woman's husband after the man picked up their sick son early from school.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
What I am asking of our members is your prayers, your forgiveness and some nasty time with your wives. Praise the Lord!

WHAT THEY SAID,
"It's time for the Senate to stand up for the Constitution and exert moral leadership. I will vote against the nomination of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General, and I urge my colleagues to do so as well."
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I will vote against the nomination of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General unfortunately a simple majority vote makes my vote useless in a Republican majority senate but I will make the most of it by making a statement to my base.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"We took some unprecedented actions today due to the unprecedented obstruction of our colleagues."
- Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, on changing the committee rules to allow the nominations of Rep. Tom Price for HHS secretary and Steven Mnuchin for Treasury secretary without any Democrats present.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
We took some unprecedented actions today due to the obstruction of our colleagues who followed precedent and did as we Republicans did when we refused to show up to pass President Obama's nominees.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"They're trying to cull CNN from the herd."
- A CNN reporter talking off the record, on the White House refusal to send spokespeople to talk on CNN TV shows.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
The White House knows CNN is a bunch of animals.

WHAT THEY SAID,
"If we end up with that gridlock, I would say, if you can, Mitch, go nuclear,"
- President Donald Trump on changing the filibuster rule for Supreme Court nominees if Democrats block the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to Supreme Court.
WHAT THEY MEANT,
I have no problem pushing the nuclear button and neither should Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
